East Bay Community Dance w/DJ DZ! - Tues, Jan 25

  • Hosted by DJ DZ
  • Oakland, CA -
  • 15 people on the list-

*There is a mask mandate that is in effect until at least February 15. We will continue to hold dances, but please do recognize that you will be required to wear a mask for the entire duration of the event.

*If you buy a ticket and can't come due to Covid reasons, we offer a refund (minus processing fees) if requested before 5pm on Tuesday, however, since there is so much uncertainty right now, which is affecting the viability of our events, some of our ticket holders have elected not to receive a refund, and instead to make a donation of their ticket price.

Dancers of the Bay Area,

We thank you all for being a part of this awesome experience! We are truly so glad that we all get to benefit from this dance medicine right now!!!

**Please DO read our guidelines at the bottom of the page.

This is an indoor, *vaccinated-only* dance event sponsored by EBCS and produced by Dan Zemelman (DJ DZ). With the disappearance of so many beloved dance events during the pandemic, we want to offer an event modeled after Ecstatic Dance, Open Floor and Five Rhythms to get dancers back on the floor and connecting with each other safely.

East Bay Community Dance occurs every Tuesday (unless cancelled for a holiday or extreme weather event). Doors open at 7:30pm and the dance is from 8-10pm.

This coming Tuesday, founding DJ and co-producer, DJ DZ will be at the helm!

DJ lineup:

Tues, Jan 25: DJ DZ

Tues, Feb 1: Betty Ray

Tues, Feb 8: Ra So

Tues, Feb 15: Neptune

Tues, Feb 22: Rhythmystic

For now, there will not be food or drink served at East Bay Community Dance. However, The Well Organic Kitchen is perfectly situated next door, and serves drink and food until 10pm!

Tickets are $20 to $22 pre-sale (or cash/Venmo at the door)

**There is limited capacity at EBCS, and we have sold out almost every time, so it is imperative to get advance tickets!

East Bay Community Dance is an all-vaccinated event. EBCD is pleased to offer a dance space for those who desire a fully-vaccinated dance experience. This means that you must have received the second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, two weeks before you attend. There are three ways to show your vaccination status:

1. Bring your completed vaccination card to the dance.

2. Go to https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov to get an electronic version of your vaccination record, and show it at the door. You might want to save a screenshot of the record your receive on your phone.

3. Upload a photo of your vaccination card via our Vaccination Record Upload Form at https://forms.gle/2NaXSvNrx3Vr9JU37.

Once we have reviewed your card, we will add your name to our list of dancers who have been vaccinated and no longer need to show proof of vaccination status at the door.

People who are unable to show proof of vaccination will not be admitted.

We look forward to dancing with you!

DJ DZ (Dan Zemelman) has been DJing and hosting dance events throughout the pandemic. It all started in Tyler Blank's tiny meadow where a small group of dancers gathered every week to dance together in community to the Zoom dance streams.

That morphed into Dan bringing a small bluetooth speaker to a park... and then a large sound system to an abandoned golf course public land trust.... to DJing and hosting 3 full on dance events a week - 2 in Marin (first at Mettacine, now at Body Vibe Studios) and the Tuesday Oakland EBCD dance!

DJ DZ cut his teeth on DJing twice a week for months and brings his 44 years experience as a professional musician (pianist) to the DJ platter! DJ DZ's music features an eclectic mix of styles including funk, EDM, pop, trap, dub, tribal and everything in between! The one thing you won't get is bad music! :-)

Out of a challenging and difficult time comes a Phoenix rising out of the ashes.

**Guidelines

· EBCD will Continue.

We will hold East Bay Community Dance this Tuesday and in future weeks as long as conditions don’t worsen significantly and Alameda County doesn’t change its regulations and guidance.

· Events are Potentially Risky.

We believe everyone attending should be aware that large gatherings like EBCD are not without risk. Attendance is a choice. Mask-wearing is NOT a choice currently (until Feb 15 or later).

· Cases Among the Vaccinated are Generally Mild.

Cases being spread among vaccinated people with normal immune systems are generally mild, which is why we feel it’s okay to hold the dance. However, even a mild case of covid requires 10 days of isolation, and Covid can be passed to unvaccinated and immunocompromised people with serious consequences. So every attendee at EBCD should evaluate the risks for themselves.

· Refunds Available.

If you have bought a ticket and decide not to attend, we will offer a refund less the service fees (which we paid to outside companies and are non-refundable to us). You must request a refund before 5 pm on Tuesday. You may also sell/transfer your ticket to another dancer.

· Get Boosted!

We encourage all dancers to get boosters, which appear to be the single most effective strategy against Omicron. Boosters appear to have some efficacy within just a few days of administration. We may require boosters for all dancers in the near future, but we haven’t decided this yet.

· Rapid Testing Encouraged.

We also encourage anyone who can to do a rapid test immediately before the event on Tuesday. Knowing that most dancers have tested negative when they come in the door would greatly reduce risk of transmission. We recognize that rapid tests are currently expensive (relative to the cost of a ticket to EBCD) and in short supply, so we are not requiring them at this time. We may require testing in the future if tests become cheaper and more readily available.

· Stay Home if You’re Even Slightly Sick.

Please do not attend EBCD if you have any symptoms that could be related to Covid-19, including cough, runny nose, congestion, fever, chills, aches or nausea.

Thank you,

David and Dan
